Moscow: China’s President Xi Jinping arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to attend the World War II victory commemoration.
According to Anadolu Agency, during Xi’s state visit, Chinese soldiers will participate in a military parade on Friday in Moscow’s Red Square, as announced by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The visit is scheduled to take place from Wednesday through Saturday. In a piece written for the Russian Gazette and published in state media Xinhua News, Xi emphasized the unstoppable trend toward China’s reunification, irrespective of the situation in Taiwan or actions by external forces.
Xi highlighted Moscow’s consistent support for the one-China principle and its opposition to any form of ‘Taiwan independence.’ He praised Russia for supporting China’s measures to achieve national reunification. In addition, Min Aung Hlaing, Myanmar’s junta chief, also traveled to Moscow on Wednesday for the victory celebration, per The Irrawaddy.
On Friday, Moscow will host celebratory events, including a military parade, to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. This day is celebrated in Russia and several former Soviet countries on May 9 to commemorate the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany during World War II.
