Moscow: Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to play a greater role in bringing the world under effective governance. Li’s remarks came during his address at the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of Member States of the SCO in Moscow.

According to Anadolu Agency, the premier emphasized China’s readiness to collaborate closely with all SCO member states to establish the SCO Development Bank at the earliest opportunity. Li also highlighted the importance of increasing the installed capacity of photovoltaic and wind power by 10 million kilowatts each over the next five years among SCO nations.

Li asserted that the SCO is equipped to take advantage of the Global Governance Initiative, positioning itself to play a significant role in promoting good global governance. He called for SCO nations to foster development and security through collaboration and to work alongside the international community to uphold multilateralism, universal security, and enduring peace.

Furthermore, Li expressed China’s willingness to engage with all member countries to enhance strategic coordination, promote cooperation implementation, and improve operational mechanisms. The aim, he stated, is to bolster the SCO’s cohesion, action capacity, and influence, ensuring it becomes a stronger organization.

Li’s visit to Moscow commenced on Monday, where he participated in the SCO meeting comprising 10 member states, two observer states, and 14 dialogue partners.
