Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that Beijing is committed to “continue consolidating the positive momentum in the development” of relations with North Korea during his two-day visit to Pyongyang.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wang Yi made this statement during his meeting with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui. The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that Wang emphasized the strategic guidance of the top leaders of both countries as a key political advantage and a strong guarantee for the development of their bilateral relations.

This visit marks the first trip by a Chinese foreign minister to North Korea since 2019, highlighting efforts by both nations to enhance communication and coordination on both regional and international matters. The timing of the visit aligns with preparations for a potential visit by US President Donald Trump to China, scheduled for May 14-15. While the White House has confirmed Trump’s state visit, Beijing has yet to officially announce it.

Speculation has arisen regarding the possibility of a meeting between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the wake of the Beijing visit. However, no official confirmation of such a summit has been made.
