Ankara: Syria's civil defense teams evacuated 366 more civilians from Suwayda to the Daraa countryside in southern Syria following security unrest in the area, the service said on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Civil Defense reported that the evacuees, the majority of whom were women and children, were transferred to temporary shelters in Daraa through the Busra al-Sham crossing on Saturday night. This operation is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the safety of civilians amidst rising tensions.

The agency further noted that a total of 3,227 individuals have been evacuated from Suwayda so far, in addition to 20 injured people and 34 bodies. The evacuations follow the outbreak of clashes on July 13 between Bedouin Arab tribes and armed Druze groups in Suwayda, which subsequently escalated with Israeli airstrikes targeting Syrian military positions and infrastructure, including in Damascus.

While Israel has claimed that its attacks were aimed at protecting Druze communities, most Druze leaders in Syria have publicly opposed any foreign interference and have reiterated their support for a unified Syrian state. The new Syrian government has been focused on reestablishing nationwide order since the ousting of former regime leader Bashar al-Assad on December 8, 2024.
