Bogota: Colombian President Gustavo Petro has condemned recent US military actions, describing strikes on alleged drug-trafficking boats off Colombia's Pacific coast as 'extrajudicial executions.' During a press conference held at the Casa de Narino, Petro criticized these operations, asserting that they contravene international law.

According to Anadolu Agency, Petro expressed his concerns on Thursday, following the United States' announcement of two additional attacks in the Pacific region near the Colombian coast. Petro emphasized the violation of international legal standards, stating that the United States is engaging in extrajudicial actions through these operations.

Furthermore, Petro addressed the strained relations between him and US President Donald Trump, accusing Trump of slandering him and insulting Colombia. He also discussed the implications of potential US aid suspension, mentioning that while the cessation of aid might have limited impact, a reduction in military assistance could affect Colombia. Petro noted that US aid often circulates through American agencies, primarily benefiting US employment.

The tensions between the two countries escalated after Trump declared on Wednesday that all funding to Colombia had been stopped. This announcement followed Trump's earlier threats to implement significant tariffs on Colombia and take serious measures against Petro's administration, which he accused of producing illegal drugs imported into the US.
