Seoul: A US envoy on Monday affirmed that "complete denuclearization" of North Korea continues to be Washington's policy, as reported by South Korean media. Acting US Ambassador to Seoul Kevin Kim made this statement following his meeting with South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo.

According to Anadolu Agency, the remarks from Kim came just days after the Trump administration released its latest National Security Strategy (NSS), which notably excluded any mention of Pyongyang's denuclearization. Kim emphasized that President Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung recently confirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea in a joint fact sheet released at their summit.

Kim noted that North Korea was among the topics discussed during his meeting with Park, including strategies to "best coordinate" on related and other issues. In response to inquiries about potential revisions to the nuclear energy pact allowing Seoul to enrich uranium and reprocess spent fuel, Kim mentioned that discussions are ongoing.

The fact sheet issued by the White House, following the meeting between Lee and Trump in late October in Busan, reiterated the leaders' commitment to the denuclearization of the DPRK (North Korea) and the pursuit of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. However, North Korea's state-run KCNA described the joint fact sheet as reinforcing a policy of hostility and confrontation against Pyongyang.
