Ankara: The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) on Wednesday criticized a reported plan by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to sell the World Cup to private investors.

According to Anadolu Agency, CONCACAF stated it learned of the issue through media reports. The confederation expressed deep concern over the lack of due process surrounding the plan. Many individuals within the region and across the football community were reportedly disappointed that such a plan had been prepared and released to the public without any discussion with the relevant governance bodies and stakeholders.

In their statement, CONCACAF emphasized the role of leaders within football as custodians of the game. The organization highlighted that FIFA, the Confederations, and every Member Association have a responsibility to act in the best interests of the sport. Decisions should be guided by principles of good governance, sound processes, and long-term stewardship, the statement added.

CONCACAF reiterated its commitment to operating within this framework and expressed trust that all within the FIFA family will act similarly.
