There is a continuous decrease of fatal road collisions, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works notes in a press release regarding road accidents during the period between 1960-2023.
It notes that there is a clear reduction in the number of deaths from road collisions since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 until 2023. “These figures show a significant reduction in fatal collisions, showing positive trends for road safety in our country” the Ministry says.
The press release adds that there has been a continuous decrease in fatal accidents in recent years, with 2023 marking the lowest number since 1960. This suggests, it continues, a positive trend towards a safer road network.
In addition, the Ministry says that there is an improvement in road safety, as the reduction in fatal collisions is attributed to various factors, such as the introduction of new road safety rules, improved infrastructure, public awareness campaigns, stricter enforcement of traffic rules and increased
controls.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works calls on all citizens to exercise caution and obey the rules of the road, noting that road safety is the responsibility of all of us, and the cooperation of all drivers is essential to continue reducing accidents and improving road safety.
