Ankara:Musandam Governorate: One crew member was killed and 27 others were evacuated after a commercial vessel was targeted near Oman's Musandam Governorate, which overlooks the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Omani Maritime Security Center stated on the US social media platform X that a Royal Navy of Oman vessel, in coordination with relevant authorities, evacuated the crew of the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged commercial ship CAPE DAO.

The center reported that the attack occurred 2.5 nautical miles off Musandam Governorate, leading to a fire in the engine room and the death of one crew member. The 27 evacuated crew members were provided with necessary medical care.

Prior to the announcement by Omani authorities, the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported that a cargo vessel had been struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire and leaving the ship adrift. The party responsible for the attack was not identified.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical waterways for energy shipments and global trade. Shipping through this waterway has experienced disruptions since the outbreak of war between Iran and the US and Israel in late February, leading to attacks on commercial vessels and heightened security concerns.
