Havana: Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has publicly condemned the recent escalation of military threats from the United States under the leadership of President Donald Trump. Diaz-Canel's remarks came as a response to statements made by Trump, suggesting increased military pressure on the Caribbean island nation.
According to Anadolu Agency, Diaz-Canel expressed his concerns via a post on the US-based social media platform X, where he described the US President's actions as dangerously unprecedented. He called on the international community and American citizens to evaluate whether such aggressive measures should be permitted, driven by what he described as the interests of a wealthy and influential minority seeking revenge and domination.
Diaz-Canel emphasized Cuba's steadfast resolve, stating that no aggressor, regardless of their power, would encounter surrender from the Cuban people. Instead, he vowed that the nation would fiercely protect its sovereignty and independence across every part of its territory.
The Cuban leader's comments follow Trump's assertion that the United States would take control of Cuba "almost immediately," with hints that the USS Abraham Lincoln, a formidable aircraft carrier, might be stationed offshore to coerce Cuba into compliance. This development occurs in the wake of US military intervention in Venezuela in January, which led to the capture of President Nicolas Maduro. Trump has repeatedly hinted that similar actions could be considered against Cuba.
