Cyprus’ candidate EU Commissioner Kadis in Strasbourg for informal meetings

Costas Kadis and other candidate EU Commissioners are in Strasbourg for informal meetings ahead of the expected announcement on Tuesday by the President of the Commission of the new European Commissioners and their portfolios, CNA has learnt. According to the same information, Kadis, who has been nominated by the Republic of Cyprus as European Commissioner, is in Strasbourg, as are a number of other candidate commissioners for informal contacts pending the announcement on Tuesday of the new European Commissioners and their portfolios. Sources note, however, that the announcement may not be made this Tuesday due to the resignation on Monday of French Commissioner Thierry Breton. In his place, France has nominated outgoing Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, who announced that he would travel to Strasbourg on Wednesday. Von der Leyen is expected on Tuesday morning to present the structure of the new Commission as well as the distribution of portfolios for the nominated Commissioners at the Conference of Pre sidents of the European Parliament (EP) in which the President of the EP and the EP's political groups leaders. Metsola, announced that she had a meeting earlier on Monday with the President of the Commission, ahead of the meeting of the Conference of Presidents. In a post on "X", Metsola notes that she had a 'good discussion' with the EU Commission President ahead of tomorrow morning's Conference of Presidents' meeting. The EP, Metsola said, 'looks forward' to discuss the proposed Commission structure and portfolios 'as our new rules foresee'. 'We'll then start the necessary process of parliamentary scrutiny and hearings. Parliament is ready', Metsola said. Source: Cyprus News Agency
