Cyprus commemorated on Sunday all those who perished in the Helios air crash on August 14th, 2005, at the mountain of Grammatiko in Greece. The flight took off from Larnaka, Cyprus with 121 passengers and crew and its final destination was Prague with a stop in Athens. Not a single soul survived. The annual memorial took place at the Agios Georgios church in the south-east town of Paralimni, where most of the victims resided. Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis represented the government. A memorial speech was delivered by DISY MEP Michalis Hadjipantela. Hadjipantela said that 19 years after the crash, the wounds are still open and the pain cannot go away. Wreaths were laid at victims' graves. This was followed by a prayer service and the laying of wreaths at the Paralimni cemetery, while a minute of silence was observed. A memorial service with 121 candles took place on Saturday night at the main Paralimni square. Source : Cyprus News Agency
