Bangkok: The death toll from the collapse of a government building in Bangkok during a powerful earthquake last month has increased to 36, with 59 individuals still unaccounted for, according to Thai authorities.

According to Anadolu Agency, rescue workers continue to face difficulties accessing certain areas of the debris from the State Audit Office building. This includes a section where a cellphone light was detected two days ago, as reported by Thai PBS.

The latest body was recovered late Saturday and has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital for identification purposes. The ongoing rescue efforts have been hindered by the heavy concrete and twisted steel that make up the rubble. Despite these challenges, authorities maintain that their plan remains unchanged, utilizing a combination of manual searches and heavy machinery.

The building collapsed as a result of a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck neighboring Myanmar on March 28.
