Death Toll from Building Collapse in Northern Lebanon Rises to 14

Tripoli: The death toll from the collapse of a residential building in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli has risen to 14, authorities said Monday. Major General Imad Khreiss, the director general of the country's Civil Defense, confirmed that search and rescue operations have concluded. He noted that 14 people lost their lives in the collapse, while eight others were rescued.

According to Anadolu Agency, authorities reported that the multistory building collapsed on Sunday in the al-Tabbaneh neighborhood of Tripoli. This neighborhood is among the poorest areas in the city, where building collapses are common due to inadequate infrastructure.

On Monday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun criticized local authorities for their failure to implement precautionary measures that could have prevented the building collapse and the resulting loss of lives.

Last month, a similar incident occurred in the same city, where two people were killed and others were injured in another residential building collapse.
