In 2022, Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever annual dengue death toll, with 281 fatalities.
In addition to the dengue crisis, health authorities have reported seven more child deaths related to confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms, bringing the total number of child deaths related to measles to 1,240 since mid-March. Out of these, 105 deaths have been confirmed as directly due to measles.
The Health Services Directorate also documented 1,232 new suspected measles cases and 63 new confirmed infections nationwide. The cumulative number of symptomatic measles cases has reached 223,784, with confirmed cases now at 23,541. In response to the outbreak, the Health Ministry has immunized approximately 20 million children, complementing routine vaccinations and a recent catch-up campaign. Bangladesh had previously achieved herd immunity against measles, but declining vaccination rates have led to its erosion in recent years.
