Doha: Qatar said Tuesday that current discussions between Israel and Hamas are focused on a framework for Gaza ceasefire negotiations. "The mediators' efforts focus on reaching a stage that will bring an end to the war in Gaza," Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari told a press conference in Doha. "A framework for Gaza ceasefire negotiations is currently being discussed ahead of the final phase," he added.
According to Anadolu Agency, the spokesman mentioned that it is too early to discuss specific details or timelines for the ceasefire negotiations. "The process requires time, and it is not possible to provide a clear timetable for achieving results," he said. "The negotiation process requires tranquility, and leaks trigger a media surge that may disrupt its course."
The spokesman also commented on the duration of the talks, stating that there are no fixed schedules for the negotiations, which will continue "until positive results are reached." The ongoing conflict has had severe humanitarian consequences, with more than 57,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children, killed in Gaza since October 2023. The continuous bombardment has resulted in the destruction of the enclave, leading to food shortages and the spread of disease.
US President Donald Trump met Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday. Meanwhile, Israeli officials continue engagement with Hamas aimed at securing a Gaza ceasefire and hostage-release deal in Qatar.
