Khartoum: A drone strike on a market in Sudan's North Kordofan State killed at least 11 civilians and injured dozens more on Saturday, according to a Sudanese rights group.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Emergency Lawyers group reported that a drone targeted the market in the Abu Zaeima area of Hamrat Al Sheikh locality on Saturday morning. This attack resulted in the deaths of 11 civilians and left dozens injured, as per a preliminary toll.
The incident occurred less than 24 hours after similar drone attacks were reported in the same area, targeting villages and a civilian vehicle. The rights group condemned these attacks, highlighting the repeated targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, which they stated reflects a disregard for human life and international humanitarian law.
The Emergency Lawyers group emphasized that the ongoing loss of civilian life should not be normalized and called for an end to such attacks, demanding accountability for those responsible. While the group did not identify the perpetrator of the strike, the region has been experiencing intense fighting. The Sudanese army is attempting to reclaim territory from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Earlier on Saturday, the group noted that drone attacks on two villages in North Kordofan on Friday resulted in four deaths and six injuries. In May, the United Nations warned of increased drone attacks in the Kordofan region, noting that such strikes killed at least 880 civilians between January and April 2026.
The Kordofan region, including North, South, and West Kordofan, has faced significant conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF since October 2025. Sudan has been caught in conflict since April 2023, when clashes erupted over the integration of the RSF into the military. This conflict has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands killed and nearly 13 million displaced.
