The hague: Dutch riot police dispersed a demonstration by the far-right group Wij Zijn Het Volk in The Hague after protesters threw fireworks and other objects at law enforcement officers.

According to Anadolu Agency, the municipality stated that the protest at the Malieveld was terminated due to ongoing violence, with authorities escorting protesters away from the area. An emergency order was issued for parts of The Hague, empowering police to remove individuals contributing to public disorder.

Dutch Justice and Security Minister David van Weel condemned the violent incidents on US social media platform X, highlighting the presence of antisemitic slogans, Hitler salutes, and violence against police. He emphasized the necessity of taking hardline action against such behavior and expressed gratitude towards the police officers for upholding the rule of law.

Authorities had earlier banned a planned march through The Hague, citing concerns over public-order disturbances, violence against police, and the presence of masked individuals. Despite the ban, a separate demonstration continued at the Malieveld, where protesters continued to throw fireworks, sticks, and smoke bombs, prompting riot police to deploy a water cannon.

Several hundred demonstrators were present at the Malieveld by early afternoon. The protest marked the anniversary of a previous demonstration at the same location, which had also escalated into violence. An undisclosed number of protesters were arrested during the altercation.
