Egypt and Qatar Urge Implementation of Initial Gaza Ceasefire Measures

Cairo: Egypt and Qatar emphasized the necessity of executing the initial phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement during a meeting in Cairo between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting centered on enhancing joint cooperation between Egypt and Qatar across various fields and maintaining coordination on regional issues to protect common interests and Arab national security. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry highlighted discussions on regional developments, underscoring the importance of implementing the first phase of former US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza.

Palestinian factions, along with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, continued their consultations in Cairo for a second day, aiming to advance the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement amid ongoing Israeli violations. Trump’s 20-point plan, announced in September, outlines a ceasefire framework that includes the release of Israeli captives, Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, the formation of a technocratic administration, and the deployment of an international stabilization force, alongside a call for Hamas to disarm.

The first phase of the plan involved a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange between Israel and Palestinian factions. However, Palestinian sources report near-daily violations of the agreement by Israel. The second phase anticipates further Israeli withdrawals from Gaza and the establishment of an international stabilization force to assume security responsibilities and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials.

Since October 2023, Israel’s actions in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 73,000 Palestinians and injuries to more than 173,000, predominantly women and children, according to Palestinian figures. Despite the ceasefire effective from October 10, 2025, the Israeli army has reportedly killed at least 947 Palestinians and injured 2,935 in ongoing attacks, as per the Gaza Health Ministry.
