Ankara:Egypt condemned continued Israeli incursions into Syria, calling for Israel to withdraw from occupied Syrian territory.
According to Anadolu Agency, Egypt's Foreign Ministry issued a statement strongly condemning Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty. These include the resumption of excavation and military construction work in the Quneitra countryside and incursions into other southern Syrian areas.
The Foreign Ministry rejected Israeli actions aimed at 'imposing a new reality on the ground' in Syria. It described these actions as 'a flagrant violation of Syria's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, international law and the 1974 disengagement agreement.'
The ministry emphasized the importance of respecting Syria's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, reiterating the call for Israel to withdraw from occupied Syrian territory.
On Sunday, Israel resumed excavation work on the 'Sufa 53' project in southern Quneitra, while Israeli forces carried out incursions into the villages of Saida al-Golan and Abdin in western Daraa on Saturday. This project, also known as 'Great Storm,' began in mid-2022 near Hader in northern Quneitra and has expanded across the province. The expansion has reportedly made thousands of acres unsuitable for agriculture and grazing, affecting water flows and the natural landscape.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, Israeli military operations in Syria have increased, with forces advancing into the demilitarized buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights. Syria has demanded Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories and reaffirmed its commitment to the 1974 disengagement agreement, while Israel asserts its actions are based on security considerations.
