Cairo: Egypt is actively working to broker a comprehensive agreement to end the ongoing Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as stated by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. The announcement was made on Monday, highlighting ongoing collaborative mediation efforts with Qatar and the United States.

According to Anadolu Agency, Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's continuous mediation efforts and its coordination with international partners to achieve a cease-fire that would halt the war. At a joint press conference in Cairo with Ivorian Foreign Minister Leon Kacou Adom, Abdelatty underscored the importance of reigniting negotiations and expressed optimism about reaching a full agreement if goodwill and political determination are present.

Abdelatty also accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and criticized the severe restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid into the territory. Since March 2, Israel has largely kept the crossings closed to aid convoys, allowing only minimal supplies, which has exacerbated famine conditions in Gaza.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister revealed that Egypt is conducting 'intensive contacts, under presidential directives, with all international partners' to caution against Israeli plans to reoccupy the Gaza Strip. This comes in response to Israel's Security Cabinet's approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to fully occupy the enclave, a decision that has faced strong criticism from both Arab and European countries.

Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has continued its military offensive on Gaza since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of 61,500 Palestinians, nearly half of whom are women and children. The ongoing military campaign has led to widespread devastation and famine in the enclave. Furthermore, in November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
