Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron engaged in a phone call to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from the Egyptian presidency highlighted that President Sisi underscored the necessity of implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement under the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. The discussion between the two leaders also encompassed potential advancements in political, economic, and investment cooperation, with a focus on increasing trade and enhancing collaboration in the areas of industry, tourism, and transportation.

The conversation further addressed regional issues, notably the situation in Gaza. President Sisi expressed appreciation for France's support of Egypt's efforts in establishing the Gaza ceasefire and emphasized the importance of progressing to the second phase of the agreement. He also stressed the need to increase the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and to initiate the early recovery and reconstruction phase without delay.

President Sisi reiterated Egypt's strong opposition to Israeli violations in the West Bank and called for heightened international pressure to halt these actions. He affirmed support for the Palestinian Authority in meeting its responsibilities toward its people. In response, President Macron acknowledged Egypt's crucial role in fostering regional stability, particularly in facilitating the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Both leaders concurred that ongoing efforts should aim to initiate a comprehensive political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Additionally, concerning Sudan, President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while rejecting any attempts to undermine the nation's security.
