Cairo: Egypt's Al-Azhar, the highest seat of Sunni Islamic learning, has condemned the renewed Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, labeling them as 'black terrorism' and criticizing global powers for allowing such actions by Tel Aviv against Palestinians.

According to Anadolu Agency, the condemnation follows a series of intensive Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, coordinated with the US, which resulted in over 400 deaths and hundreds of injuries, despite a ceasefire agreement. The Cairo-based institution described the airstrikes as a 'treacherous terrorist aggression' by Israel against innocent Palestinians, further accusing Israel of a pattern of betrayal and breaking covenants.

Al-Azhar's statement claims that Israel's actions reveal its 'bloody face' and a historical tendency to violate agreements, further accusing the country of lacking 'humanity and honor'. The institution warned that Israel is unlikely to halt its aggression as long as it continues to receive support and protection from global powers.

Al-Azhar criticized international support for Israel, labeling it a 'civilizational and moral regression' and complicity in its actions. It described the Israeli military action as 'black terrorism' and called for the international community to take immediate action to stop the violence and hold Israeli leaders accountable for their alleged war crimes.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of more than 48,500 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, and over 112,000 injuries since October 2023. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
