Colombo: Starlink has launched its internet service in Sri Lanka, the company chief Elon Musk confirmed on Wednesday. "Starlink now available in Sri Lanka!," Musk announced on X, marking a significant milestone for the South Asian nation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sri Lanka has become the second nation in South Asia to receive Starlink service, following the recent launch in Bangladesh last month. Meanwhile, Pakistan had previously granted a temporary No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Starlink in March, allowing the service to operate within its borders.

Earlier this year, negotiations took place between two Indian telecom giants, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, and SpaceX, Starlink's parent company, to introduce the satellite internet service in India. These developments highlight the increasing reach and demand for Starlink's services in the region.

Starlink, a division of US billionaire Elon Musk's company SpaceX, has rapidly expanded its global footprint, now operating in more than 125 countries and territories. The company focuses on providing internet connectivity in remote or underserved areas through a network of low-Earth orbit satellites, revolutionizing internet access for many communities worldwide.
