Damascus: Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense issued alerts for the country's southwestern Khamis Mushait Governorate and Abha city in Aseer Province "to alert of a potential danger" but later announced that "danger has passed" in these areas.

According to Anadolu Agency, the civil defense, in a statement on X, advised people to "avoid gathering and filming" despite the passing of the danger. The alerts come at a time of heightened tension due to rapidly escalating fighting in neighboring Yemen.

The conflict in Yemen has intensified as the Houthis have declared control over strategic areas near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, including the districts of Hays and Al-Khawkhah in the western Al-Hudaydah province. Fighting between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis has surged on multiple fronts, especially in the Taiz, Al-Jawf, and Al-Bayda provinces. This escalation has been compounded by airstrikes targeting Houthi positions.

Yemen's conflict began in 2014 when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several other provinces. In response, a Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 to support Yemen's internationally recognized government.
