English Football Regulator Chief Threatens Resignation Over Political Interference in Manchester City Case

Manchester:The chairman of England's Independent Football Regulator (IFR), David Kogan, stated that he would resign if he encounters political interference regarding the future of Manchester City.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kogan emphasized the regulator's independence as it faces scrutiny about the ownership of the Premier League club. He has the authority to evaluate the suitability of football club owners and executives.

An independent commission is reviewing accusations that Manchester City violated Premier League financial rules. Should these findings be confirmed, the IFR might have to decide whether the club should be compelled to change ownership.

Kogan addressed Prime Minister Andy Burnham's concerns about Manchester City's Abu Dhabi owners potentially selling the club, affirming the regulator's independence and stating that no politician has attempted or would attempt to influence their decisions. He added that he would step down if such interference occurred.

A Premier League commission independently found Manchester City guilty of significant financial rule breaches between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons, including fabricating contracts with commercial partners to falsely boost revenue. The club has appealed this ruling, denying the allegations and asserting their innocence, with sanctions yet to be decided.
