Ankara: Trkiye's enduring call, rooted in the principle that "the world is bigger than five," transcends a simple criticism of the current global order and embodies a vision for humanity's collective future, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan's remarks were published in an article in Newsweek, as noted by Trkiye's Communications Director Burhanettin Duran on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal. Erdogan highlighted the immense strain on the global order due to conflicts, terrorism, pandemics, climate crises, and widening inequality, asserting that the United Nations (UN) is failing to fulfill its core mission of preserving peace and security amid these challenges.
Erdogan criticized the UN Security Council for its decision-making being reduced to the will and interests of five countries, calling for urgent reforms to allow the UN to function effectively and deliver fair solutions to global issues. He emphasized Trkiye's commitment to dialogue and mediation in its foreign policy, citing the Black Sea Grain Initiative as an example of bringing tangible benefits to regional and global stability.
The Turkish president addressed ongoing conflicts, particularly in Gaza, describing Israel's actions as "one of the gravest tests of humanity's conscience." He reiterated Trkiye's efforts to achieve a ceasefire and support a two-state solution, stressing the importance of recognizing a sovereign Palestinian state with East Al-Quds as its capital.
Erdogan also spoke on Syria, emphasizing the necessity of recovery and reconstruction for regional stability. He stressed the importance of respecting the collective will of all Syrians and maintaining Syria's territorial integrity and political unity. Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's rejection of any actions that undermine the will of the Syrian people or support separatist movements.
The president concluded by affirming Trkiye's commitment to steering humanity towards a just and dignified future, drawing on its experiences to advocate for truth, justice, and solidarity in addressing global challenges.
