New York:Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the significance of 'close cooperation' between Turkey and the United States, asserting that it can foster peace and stability in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan expressed his views during a meeting with representatives of US think tanks at the Turkish House in New York. The meeting was held in conjunction with the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and was organized by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications alongside the Foundation for Political, Economic, and Social Research.

Erdogan stated that the ongoing collaboration with the United States holds potential to enhance bilateral relations and contribute to regional peace, stability, and tranquility. He highlighted that such meetings have become a tradition, enabling better mutual understanding and a broader perspective on global issues.

Discussing a recent joint defense agreement Turkey signed with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in Mecca, Erdogan emphasized Ankara's aim to establish a much-needed 'axis of stability' in the region. He also pointed out the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and respecting the sovereignty of countries in the area.

On the topic of Syria, Erdogan reiterated Turkey's priorities, which include preserving Syria's territorial integrity, safeguarding the rights of all ethnic and religious communities, and eradicating terrorist organizations from the country.
