Taiz:Military developments unfolded in Yemen as clashes erupted in Taiz and airstrikes were conducted in Hudaydah and Saada. These events occurred amidst diplomatic efforts by the Yemeni government to address Houthi escalations that threaten national and regional security and the freedom of international navigation.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Yemeni Armed Forces reported downing a drone over the Jabal Habashi district southwest of Taiz while countering a Houthi infiltration attempt. This attempt targeted security positions along a crucial road connecting Taiz city with the southern provinces of Lahj and Aden. The Yemeni government claimed to have secured the Wadi Al-Maqatra area and the vital Hayjat Al-Abd road after repelling the infiltration efforts.
In addition to the clashes in Taiz, local sources noted intense fighting on the mountainous Haifan front, where government forces thwarted Houthi attempts to disrupt supply routes and tighten the siege on Taiz. Observers suggest that the Houthis aim to strengthen their control along the western coast while pressuring Taiz from multiple directions.
Saudi aircraft launched five airstrikes on Kamaran Island in Hudaydah and four strikes in Saada, targeting telecommunications and other strategic locations, according to Houthi-run Saba news agency. The airstrikes are part of the ongoing military escalation in the region.
Beyond Yemen's borders, the Houthis announced an attack on military sites in Saudi Arabia's Jazan region using ballistic missiles and drones. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree described the operation as "preemptive," claiming significant casualties and damage to Saudi military resources. However, Turki al-Maliki, spokesman for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, reported intercepting six ballistic missiles aimed at Saudi cities, stating that the coalition would respond firmly to Houthi violations.
The situation underscores the ongoing conflict's complexity and the humanitarian toll, with over 169,000 displaced people recorded across 10 provinces, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation.
