Ethiopia’s Parliament Reelects Abiy Ahmed as Prime Minister Amidst Regional Tensions

Addis Ababa:Ethiopia: Ethiopia's parliament has reelected Abiy Ahmed as the country's prime minister for another five-year term.

According to Anadolu Agency, Abiy Ahmed was reelected following the general election in June, where his ruling Prosperity Party secured 438 out of 547 seats in parliament.

Abiy's swearing-in ceremony was attended by President Taye Atske-Selassie and senior government officials, marking the start of his new governmental term.

The reelection comes at a time when Ethiopia is experiencing renewed conflict. The country's armed forces are engaged in fighting against the Ethiopian Peoples' Forces Alliance for Survival, a newly formed armed group aiming to overthrow the government.

Ethiopia has accused neighboring countries, including Eritrea, of supporting these armed groups. In response, Ethiopia recently closed its embassy in Eritrea and declared 10 Eritrean diplomats in Addis Ababa persona non grata.
