Brussels:The European Commission has disbursed £2.86 billion ($3.2 billion) to Ukraine to support its military efforts, including the procurement of drones, air defense systems, and missiles, in response to ongoing attacks.
According to Anadolu Agency, this funding is part of the defense component of the EU's £90 billion Ukraine Support Loan. The disbursement aims to address urgent military needs, such as radars, electronic warfare systems, and ammunition.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of this support, stating that Russia's continued aerial attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure necessitate Europe's steadfast assistance to help protect Ukraine's skies and save lives.
The £90 billion loan package for 2026-2027 includes £60 billion designated for defense and £30 billion for budgetary assistance. The commission noted that £28.3 billion is planned for disbursement in 2026 to enhance Ukraine's defense industrial capacity, with additional payments expected in the coming weeks.
Ukraine still has £29.64 billion in financial support available for the remainder of 2026, of which £25.24 billion comes from the Ukraine Support Loan. This includes £12.54 billion for defense industrial capacity and £12.7 billion for budget support.
Since 2022, the EU and its member states have provided £231.5 billion in overall support to Ukraine, which includes £3.8 billion generated from proceeds of immobilized Russian assets, as reported by the commission.
