Brussels:The Council of the European Union has announced the adoption of eight decisions to mobilize approximately £4.9 billion ($5.4 billion) in military support for Ukraine as part of the European Peace Facility (EPF).
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the decisions include £4.7 billion ($5.2 billion) allocated to partially reimburse EU member states for military aid already provided to Ukraine, along with an additional £230 million for the EU Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine, known as EUMAM Ukraine.
This financial package represents a significant move towards the implementation of an agreement among EU member states to mobilize £6.6 billion under the EPF. The agreement further encompasses £1 billion in new military aid and added support for the training mission anticipated in 2027.
The latest decisions increase the total support for Ukraine under the EPF to £10.8 billion, which includes £9.9 billion for military aid reimbursements and £950 million for military training. The Council emphasized the EU's enduring commitment to Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia, which began in February 2022.
Additionally, the EU has redirected £3.5 billion from extraordinary revenues generated by immobilized Russian assets to address Ukraine's requirements for ammunition, air defense, and drones. More than £1.5 billion of military equipment has been procured directly from Ukraine's defense industry.
The European Peace Facility, established in March 2021, supports actions under the EU's common foreign and security policy, aiming to prevent conflicts, maintain peace, and bolster international security, including military aid to partner nations.
