EU Commission Backs Foreign Policy Chief Amidst Member States’ Discontent

Brussels: The EU Commission has voiced its support for the bloc's foreign policy chief following reports of dissatisfaction from some member states. Paula Pinho, the European chief spokesperson, affirmed at a daily press briefing, "The European External Action Service is one of the institutions that implements the policies of the European Union and, therefore, obviously, our President (Ursula von der Leyen) supports it, as well as the work it does."

According to Anadolu Agency, the Financial Times reported that EU member states are contemplating a potential reform of the bloc's diplomatic service. The discussions reportedly include proposals that could diminish the authority of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and reassign some responsibilities to other institutions.

The report highlights that France and Germany are among the nations considering changes to the European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU's diplomatic entity. This consideration arises amid concerns that the EEAS has faced challenges in effectively addressing significant geopolitical issues.
