Brussels: The EU foreign policy chief has expressed "deep regret" over the United States' decision to impose sanctions on officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC). This announcement was made on Sunday, highlighting concerns over the potential impact of these measures on the ICC's operations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kaja Kallas, speaking on behalf of the European External Action Service (EEAS), emphasized the EU's unwavering support for the ICC. She stressed the importance of the court's ability to operate without external pressures or threats, stating that attacks or threats against the court and its personnel are unacceptable. The EU is committed to providing support and contributions to safeguard the ICC and its staff.

Kallas further called for global cooperation with the ICC, urging states to execute outstanding arrest warrants promptly and enter into voluntary agreements. She mentioned that the EU is closely monitoring the implications of the US executive order and is evaluating potential further actions.

The US sanctions, announced on Wednesday, targeted two ICC judges and two deputy prosecutors, following previous sanctions against four judges in June and the court's chief prosecutor earlier this year.
