Brussels: The European Union emphasized the distinct actions of Russia and the United States concerning nuclear missile test disputes, highlighting Moscow's ongoing military aggression against Ukraine.

According to Anadolu Agency, during a European Commission briefing in Brussels, spokesperson Anitta Hipper responded to reports of Russia's recent test of the Burevestnik, a nuclear-powered cruise missile. Hipper criticized the test, stating that it signifies Russia's continued escalation rather than choosing peace. She expressed concerns about the potential release of radioactive materials from such tests.

Hipper refrained from commenting extensively on recent remarks by former US President Donald Trump, who has promised to recommence nuclear weapons tests. She noted that the US has not conducted explosive nuclear tests in decades and urged all treaty parties to adhere to their commitments. Despite Trump's social media announcement regarding the Department of Defense's nuclear test plans, Hipper stressed the importance of honoring international treaty obligations.

The EU spokesperson reiterated the call for all signatories, including Russia, to respect commitments under treaties like the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), but acknowledged their low expectations from Moscow in this regard.
