EU New Car Registrations Rise by 1.4% in First 10 Months

Brussels: New car registrations in the EU increased by 1.4% year on year in the first 10 months of this year, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) announced on Tuesday. Despite this positive trend, the association noted that overall volumes remain significantly below pre-pandemic levels.

According to Anadolu Agency, the battery-electric car market share in the EU reached 16.4%, although this is still not at the pace required for the ongoing transition. Hybrid-electric vehicles emerged as the most popular choice among buyers, with plug-in hybrids also gaining momentum.

In the January-October period, battery-electric cars made up 16.4% of the EU market share, which is an increase from the previous 13.2%. Hybrid-electric car registrations accounted for 34.6% of the market, maintaining their status as the preferred choice among EU consumers.

The market share for petrol and diesel cars combined fell to 36.6%, a decline from 46.3% over the same period in 2024. During this period, the EU registered 1.47 million new battery-electric cars, 3.1 million hybrid-electric cars, 819,200 plug-in hybrids, and 2.46 million petrol and diesel vehicles.
