Brussels: European Council President Antonio Costa on Thursday welcomed the US-brokered truce in Syria and urged all parties to honor their commitments. "I welcome the current truce brokered by the US and regional partners, and urge all parties to deliver on their commitments," Costa wrote on X. He emphasized the importance of protecting all members of religious and ethnic minorities without distinction, calling on Syrian authorities to take necessary actions.

According to Anadolu Agency, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that all parties involved in the Syrian conflict had agreed on "specific steps" aimed at ending the ongoing clashes. This development comes amidst heightened tensions and violence in the region, particularly following recent airstrikes.

On Wednesday, the Israeli army conducted airstrikes targeting the Syrian capital, Damascus, as well as the cities of Suwayda and Daraa. These actions were reportedly taken under the pretext of protecting the Druze community. The situation further escalated with another strike on a Syrian military base early Thursday, resulting in significant casualties.

The Interior Ministry reported that these attacks have led to the deaths of more than 30 people and injuries to nearly 100 others. The international community continues to watch the situation closely, hoping that the truce will hold and lead to a cessation of violence in the war-torn country.
