Ceuta: The European Democratic Party on Monday accused foreign actors of orchestrating the recent mass arrival of migrants in Spain's Ceuta enclave through an online disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing Europe.

According to Anadolu Agency, the party released a statement on the US social media platform X, highlighting Morocco's Interior Ministry's claims that the entry of at least 50,000 people into Ceuta was coordinated through digital platforms and significantly influenced from outside Morocco. The statement underscored the use of online mobilization and disinformation as tools to destabilize Spain, challenge European migration policy, and ultimately, weaken Europe.

The European Democratic Party also criticized Europe's far-right groups, naming figures like Manfred Weber and the European People's Party for focusing on "Spain's regularization policy" instead of recognizing what the party described as a broader hybrid operation. They labeled the situation as an attack on Europe, designed to divide and pit Member States against one another, ultimately threatening the unity of the European Union. "Ceuta is a European border, and Europe must defend it together," the party asserted.

The crisis saw more than 50,000 migrants entering the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco over the past week. As of Friday evening, Spanish authorities had estimated that over 48,300 had returned, while 72 lives were lost during the crisis. Ceuta and Melilla, being Spanish-administered enclaves on Morocco's northern coast, constitute the EU's only land borders with the African continent.
