European Stocks Decline Amid French Fiscal Concerns

Ankara:European stock markets ended the day lower as apprehensions about France's public finances and sustained high oil prices impacted investor sentiment.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Stoxx Europe 600 index decreased by 1% to close at 630.25 points. Italy's FTSE MIB experienced the most significant drop among major regional markets, falling 2.51% to 49,972.25. Germany's DAX 40 lost 1.35% to finish at 25,104.36, while the UK's FTSE 100 declined by 0.79% to 10,458.5.

France's CAC 40 fell by 1.22% to 7,769.21, and Spain's IBEX 35 dropped 1.68% to 19,118. The euro also weakened, declining 0.6% against the dollar to 1.119 as of 1750 GMT.

The ongoing concerns about France's fiscal outlook continued to exert pressure on European equities, while geopolitical uncertainty kept oil prices elevated. In economic developments, German industrial production rose by 2% month-on-month in August and grew by 2.3% compared to the previous year, surpassing expectations.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva highlighted the necessity for critical policy action to address sluggish growth, pointing out the rapid changes and increased uncertainty in the global economy due to factors like artificial intelligence, energy prices, and public debt.
