London: Former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Tuesday that he would step down as an MP after representing London's Holborn and St Pancras constituency for the last 11 years.

According to Anadolu Agency, Starmer expressed that it had been a "huge honour and privilege" to serve the constituency, but he now plans to shift his focus towards "international affairs." His decision to leave the House of Commons will lead to a by-election in his Holborn and St Pancras constituency in London.

On July 20, Starmer formally resigned as British prime minister and was succeeded by Andy Burnham. In his final address as prime minister outside 10 Downing Street, Starmer remarked, "My work is done."

Starmer's resignation followed increasing unrest within the governing party, poor electoral outcomes, and a significant decline in public support.
