Ankara: An explosion was heard near Iran's Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, according to Iranian media. The Fars news agency reported that residents in the vicinity heard the sound of an explosion, although the exact location and cause of the blast remained unclear.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Tasnim news agency stated that preliminary information suggested a US drone attack targeted a location on the island. In parallel, US media sources revealed that American forces engaged two Iranian launchers on the island after observing preparations by Iranian forces to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the strait.
Larak Island, situated east of Qeshm Island within the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, falls under the administrative jurisdiction of Hormozgan province.
