Sevastopol: An explosion in a residential building in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014, killed one person and injured 12 others, Russian-installed officials reported Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor of the city, stated that specialists have officially ruled out a gas explosion as the cause of the blast, which took place on Monday night.

"Forensic experts, bomb experts, specialists from the Investigative Committee, and the FSB (Federal Security Service) are currently working at the scene. Law enforcement agencies will determine the exact cause after all examinations are completed," he wrote on Telegram.

Razvozhayev mentioned that the wave from the blast seriously damaged the building across the street, adding that the situation is under the full control of federal agencies.

"Unfortunately, one woman has died," he wrote, offering his condolences to the family and friends. "One person remains missing. Currently, 12 Sevastopol residents are in hospitals, including three children."

Russia illegally annexed the Crimean Peninsula in 2014, in a move not recognized by the international community, including Trkiye.
