Washington: US Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr warned on Saturday that broadcasters could risk losing their licenses, echoing criticism from US President Donald Trump about media coverage of the US-Israeli conflict in Iran. Carr emphasized that broadcasters must operate in the public interest, according to the law, and highlighted that they will lose their licenses if they fail to do so.

According to Anadolu Agency, Carr stated that broadcasters running hoaxes and news distortions, which he referred to as "fake news," have an opportunity to correct their course before their license renewals come up. He used US social media platform X to express his concerns, urging broadcasters to reconsider their approach, particularly as public trust in legacy media has plummeted to about 9%. Carr stressed the importance of restoring trust in the media, which has increasingly been labeled as "fake news."

Carr further remarked that when a political candidate can achieve a landslide victory despite facing hoaxes and distortions, it signals a severe loss of public faith and confidence in the media. He declared that such a situation cannot be allowed to persist and called for change.

President Trump has consistently accused the media of misrepresenting the conflict in Iran. In his latest commentary on his Truth Social platform, he criticized the media for their reluctance to report positively on the achievements of the United States Military against Iran, a nation he described as "totally defeated" and seeking a deal, although "not a deal that I would accept."
