Fenerbahce Head Coach Ismail Kartal Steps Down After Galatasaray Defeat

Istanbul:Turkish Super Lig team Fenerbahce has announced the resignation of head coach Ismail Kartal following a recent loss to Galatasaray. The decision comes after discussions between Kartal and the club's management.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the announcement followed Fenerbahce's 2-1 defeat in the derby against Galatasaray, marking the ninth round of the Turkish Super Lig. The club expressed gratitude to Kartal for his contributions, highlighting his dedication and loyalty.

Kartal, who is 65 years old, rejoined Fenerbahce in June for his fourth tenure as head coach, with a contract for the 2026-27 season. During his time, he successfully led the team back to the UEFA Champions League's main stage, a feat not achieved since the 2008-09 season. Despite a previous resignation offer following a Champions League draw against Roma, which was initially rejected by the club's president, Kartal continued to lead the team until this recent decision. Fenerbahce has yet to announce a successor for Kartal.
