Okinawa: A fire broke out on a US Navy ship off the Okinawa islands of southwestern Japan, as reported by public broadcaster NHK. The incident occurred on a military vessel identified as the New Orleans, off the city of Uruma.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Japan Coast Guard reported that the fire started around 5:00 pm (0800GMT). Although smoke was observed rising from the bow of the vessel, no injuries have been reported, and there has been no request to evacuate the crew. Vessels from Japan's Self-Defense Forces are actively working to extinguish the fire.

Okinawa is a strategic location hosting 31 US-exclusive military facilities, which make up more than 70% of such sites in terms of land area in Japan. The island accommodates approximately half of the 50,000 US troops stationed in the country under a security pact.
