Fire in Belgium’s Fagnes Region Under Control After Seven Days

Fagnes: A wildfire in Belgium's Fagnes region was brought under control on Thursday after seven days, according to Le Soir newspaper. The fire, which had been raging across the region, was considered contained in the western part of the area. However, operations continued in the eastern section, where firefighters were still actively working to control the blaze.

According to Anadolu Agency, about 350 individuals, including firefighters from Belgium and Germany, emergency services, police, civil protection, the military, and nature authorities, were involved in the response efforts. The collaboration highlighted the extensive resources required to tackle the wildfire effectively.

In addition to the personnel, seven aircraft, including helicopters from Germany and Norway and two planes from Sweden, were deployed to conduct water drops, focusing their efforts mainly in the eastern area of the fire zone. This aerial support played a crucial role in managing the spread of the fire.

As the situation improved, German firefighters were scheduled to withdraw late Thursday, with Belgian crews set to take over the area. Monitoring operations were expected to continue, aided by civil protection drones, to ensure that the fire remained under control and to prevent any potential re-ignition in the affected areas.
