Fire on Tanker Near Oman Leaves One Casualty and Two Crew Members Missing

London: The UK Maritime Trade Organizations (UKMTO) Center reported a fire on a tanker located 20 nautical miles northeast of Sohar in Oman. The incident resulted in one casualty, and two crew members are currently missing.

According to Anadolu Agency, the UKMTO noted that local authorities are assisting with the crew's evacuation following the fire in the vessel's engine room. While the agency confirmed the casualty, the nature of it remains unspecified. Authorities are investigating the incident, and no environmental effects have been reported.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that three Indian nationals are missing after the incident involving the commercial vessel Settebello. The ministry condemned the attack, noting that out of the 24 Indian crew members on board, 21 have been rescued, and three remain missing.

New Delhi expressed concern over the continuing attacks on shipping in the region, attributing them to the ongoing conflict. The ministry emphasized the need to end the targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure, advocating for the restoration of free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways in accordance with international law.
