Nanning: At least 39 people have lost their lives, and nine others are missing due to severe floods that led to a reservoir breach in southern China, as reported by local authorities on Thursday. The flooding has caused significant disruption in the region, triggering emergency responses and rescue operations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the casualties have been recorded across the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, which shares its border with Vietnam. The Liulan Reservoir in Nanning, the regional capital, suffered a breach amid the heavy rainfall, intensifying the crisis and prompting immediate action from emergency services.

Efforts are underway to search for the missing and provide relief to those affected by the catastrophe. The region has been experiencing severe weather, including thunderstorms, torrential rains, and landslides, contributing to the flooding.

In a particularly unusual incident, nearly 900 snakes escaped from a farm in the Hengzhou area after floodwaters caused the farm's walls to collapse, adding to the complexities faced by rescue teams.

The disastrous weather patterns have not been confined to southern China alone. In the northwestern province of Gansu, a landslide claimed the lives of at least 21 people in Tanchang county, highlighting the widespread impact of the recent adverse weather conditions across the country.
