Taiz: Flooding in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz has resulted in the deaths of 24 people and affected more than 31,000 families. The losses have exceeded $15 million since late March, according to local authorities.

According to Anadolu Agency, Deputy Governor Moheeb al-Hakimi disclosed during a press conference in Taiz that the floods impacted several districts, causing significant harm to 31,260 families. Yemen's state news agency, Saba, reported on the casualties and the extensive damage inflicted by the floods.

Al-Hakimi highlighted that the damage spanned critical sectors, with the total estimated losses surpassing $15 million. He stressed that these disasters are part of a broader pattern of chronic vulnerability linked to climate change, failing infrastructure, rising food insecurity, and weak institutional capacity for early warning and response.

On April 14, the Yemeni government announced that the flooding in Taiz had resulted in the deaths of 22 people, with 21 others reported missing or injured, while displacing over 12,000 families. Since late March, Yemen has been beset by heavy rains, leading to fatalities, injuries, and widespread damage across multiple provinces, particularly in Taiz.

The fragile infrastructure in Yemen has exacerbated the impact of the floods, adding to the difficulties faced by residents amid more than 11 years of conflict between government forces and the Houthi group.
