FM holds bilateral meetings and attends trilateral with Greece and Jordan in NYC

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, held on Thursday a series of bilateral meetings in New York, within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 79th United Nations (UN) General Assembly, and participated in a trilateral meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, and Greece, George Gerapetritis. According to a Foreign Ministry press release, the three Foreign Ministers reviewed during their meeting the status of the trilateral cooperation and prepared the 4th Trilateral Summit, expected to take place in Cyprus in 2024. Prior to this, Kombos had a bilateral meeting with his Jordanian counterpart, discussing issues pertaining to bilateral relations and regional developments. Kombos also met on Thursday with the Secretary of Foreign Minister of the Philippines, Enrique Manalo. The two Ministers reviewed Cyprus-Philippines bilateral relations. This was followed by a bilateral meeting with the Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani. Kombos and Hasani had the opportunity to review Cyprus-Albania relations, as well as Albania's progress towards European Union (EU) accession. Subsequently, the Foreign Minister met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau, Carlos Pinto Pereira, and the Minister of Trade and Economic Development of the Kingdom of Tonga, Viliami Uasike Latu, and discussed ways to further deepen Cyprus's relations with both countries in areas of mutual interest. Kombos also held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, focusing on the situation in the Middle East. This was followed by a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, which focused primarily on Cyprus-Uzbekistan bilateral relations and their further strengthening. In the afternoon, the Foreign Minister also participated in a special session on the situation in Gaza and attended the speech of the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at the plenary session of the UN General Assembly.
